“On the way home from school, thoughts of rejection and dejection begin to set in as I entertain the thought–maybe no one loves me.”
I remember when I was a teenager the thought of Valentine’s Day struck anticipation and terror into my heart. Every year on that day many girls would be receiving roses, candy and stuffed animals–right in the middle of class at school! On this unique day, interruptions for these special deliveries and tokens of affection were allowed and celebrated. They symbolized the thing we all want in a way that everyone could see it–somebody loves you.
Every time the door opened with a delivery, I would look and think, “Is this one for me?” After watching and waiting, watching and waiting, first period goes by, second period goes by, third period goes by, and eventually it’s the end of the day. All hope of receiving anything is almost gone. On the way home from school, thoughts of rejection and dejection begin to set in as I entertain the thought–maybe no one loves me.
But, when I finally get home and go to my room, what do I see? I see a heart-shaped box full of candy sitting on my desk. Who is it from? It’s from my Daddy. He loves me. Every year my Dad would get each of his four daughters candy for Valentine’s Day. He never forgot. No matter what anyone else did, I knew my Daddy loved me.
I am fortunate to have an earthly father who demonstrates the love of God. I realize that everyone does not. But even if you never knew the love of your biological father, you have a Daddy (Abba) in Heaven that loves you. There is nothing you have to say or do to earn His love. You don’t have to wear the nicest clothes, have the prettiest hair or always be on your best behavior. God loves you and cherishes you in just as a proud dad would delight in his precious baby girl. He remembers you and demonstrates His love for you in countless ways every day.
Isaiah 49:15-16
“…Yes, they may forget, yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have indelibly imprinted (tattooed a picture of) you on the palm of each of My hands…” (Amplified Bible)
To all of Daddy’s little girls–Happy Valentine’s Day. Your Father in Heaven really does love you.
