Sometimes we need a boost. Well, I have listed a few things that will help you gain more energy in your life. This is by no means an exhaustive list. There are things you can do in the natural and in the spirit that will help you, so I’m giving you a combo pack. Here are a few things that have worked for me.
1. Learn something new. I’ve probably mentioned this before, but it’s true. Our lives are stimulated when we learn something new. Mental stimulation is necessary for our mental, spiritual and physical well being. So learn to dance the salsa, learn to cook a new dish or play the guitar.
2. Cut out the excessive sugar intake. I know most people use sugar to get an energy boost, but it actually has the opposite effect. It causes your blood sugar to spike and then rapidly drop. Instead opt for the natural sugars found in fruit or even try eating a light protein meal.
3. Praise God! Did you know that praising God actually can energize you? Of course we praise God because He is worthy to be praised, but even in our obedience to praise Him, we get all kinds of benefits. God is our strength, He is the lifter of our heads, He is our bright and morning star. So, since He’s all of this (and a whole lot more), the act of praising Him brings his nature to our conscious, causing Him to rise up in us. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty. Liberty (freedom) is the condition of being free from restraints. As Christians, we should enjoy a certain level of freedom that the world has never experienced. This freedom, this liberty should energize us, because we have the knowledge that we can do all things through Christ. Because God is always on our side, our vantage point is one of victory!
4. Drink your water. Many of us are in a state of dehydration and we don’t even realize it. Dehydration saps the body of energy. Our body is approximately 65-70% water. When our body doesn’t have enough water it has to work harder to function properly. This automatically drops your energy levels. A good measure of how much water to drink is to take your weight, divide it in half and drink that number of ounces a day. (Example: 150 lb. person/2 is 75 lbs. So this person would drink at least 75 ounces of water a day.) Your water intake should increase if you are doing physical activity or if it is an extremely hot day.
5. Cast your cares onto God. So often we try to take on things and situations and weights that are not ours to carry. This only weighs us down emotionally and spiritually. Learn to yield to God and give your cares to Him. This act alone will energize you. Take the time to consider what you’re carrying and then determine that you are going to give it to God.
